Marivel Soria Selected as the 2017-2018 Provost’s Professional Academic Advisor of the Year

headshot of Marivel SoriaMarivel Soria, iSchool Academic Advisor for Undergraduate Programs, was named the 2017-2018 Provost’s Professional Academic Advisor of the Year. She was selected amongst a competitive pool of candidates. Marivel’s nomination letters noted that she is a valuable resource and that, when faced with an unexpected staff change, shows great leadership in the Undergraduate Information Science program. Within the department, Marivel serves as a role model and cultivates a sense of belonging and community among first generation and underrepresented students. Colleagues are impressed by her ingenuity in developing processes and protocols conducive to a rapidly growing degree program. One colleague noted, “Marivel is consistently helpful, willing to dive in, and more importantly will often resolve something before it becomes a problem.”

Marivel will be honored with her award at the Annual Undergraduate Studies Advising conference, scheduled for August 14, 2018.
