Reem Saleh, a senior at the University of Maryland’s InfoSci program, is making a mark in information science with a focus on community-driven issues. With roots in Syria and Egypt, Saleh draws on her cultural heritage to guide her work in data science, tackling challenges like school safety, refugee resettlement, and food insecurity. Her journey into STEM began at Montgomery College, where a coding workshop sparked her interest. During an internship at the Maryland Center for School Safety, she analyzed students’ perceptions of safety to help improve school environments. Beyond academics, Saleh enjoys volunteering with refugees and exploring personal hobbies like Arabic calligraphy.
