Faculty Spotlight: Maggie Dull, Lecturer

headshot of Maggie DullMaggie Dull started teaching the MLIS’s “Creating Information Infrastructures” in 2017 shortly before moving to become the Head of Metadata Strategies at the University of Rochester’s River Campus Libraries. Maggie is the perfect choice for teaching an information infrastructures course given that she supervises the department responsible for all cataloging and metadata activities. She is currently engaged in the University of Rochester’s data governance work, focusing on institutional data, working with colleagues to develop a suite of services around research data management, and investigating how Metadata Services can leverage their expertise to help others at the university solve their metadata problems and questions. In addition, her library “front-of-house” experience as a librarian gives her a holistic perspective that she considers when teaching; in turn, her own work is influenced by her students’ engagement with the course and their subsequent thoughts, reactions, and perspectives. When she’s working or teaching, Maggie supports fencing tournaments on bout committee, all the way from local to international competitions, in a role that’s a cross between score-keeping and space management.
