A recent task force meeting at the University of Maryland highlighted efforts to drive economic growth and create job opportunities in Prince George’s County through the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).

Hosted by County Councilmember Wala Blegay, the task force meeting focused on preparing Prince George’s County residents for AI-driven industries. Dr. Keith Marzullo, Dean of UMD’s College of Information, emphasized AI’s positive impact. Dr. Vanessa Frias-Martinez, UMD’s representative on the task force, is also playing a key role in advancing the university’s involvement in AI initiatives.

Speakers, including Vennard Wright, CEO of PerVista AI, emphasized AI’s career opportunities beyond technical roles. Education leaders from UMD, Bowie State, and Prince George’s Community College discussed training programs for businesses. Key topics included AI’s role in addressing nursing shortages and securing funding for AI initiatives.
