UMD Faculty Dance Concert – Featuring DanceXDance

Community Events Student Events

Date/Time: Friday, March 10, 2023 7:30 pm - 9:30 am

Location: UMCP, Dance Theatre at The Clarice

The Faculty Dance Concert shines the spotlight on works choreographed by UMD School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance studies faculty! The concert’s evocative choreography will be performed by TDPS students and features a range of style and movement. Join us for a special collaboration with the INFO College, where a special duet will merge dance and technology!

DanceXDance is a duet between a dancer and a small, wearable robot, which the audience influences through a smart phone app. The piece explores themes of human-robot interaction and relationships, individual and collective agency in technologically mediated relationships, and our human relationship to technology like robotics and artificial intelligence. It is a multi-discipline collaboration between Adriane Fang (TDPS), Huaishu Peng (UMIACS), Bill Kules (INFO College) and Jonathan David Martin (IMDM). Presented by the UMD School of Theatre Dance and Performance Studies.
