Description:

Enjoy a day of learning and discovery at the University of Maryland’s springtime open house. Maryland Day is the University of Maryland’s largest community event each year. The campus-wide celebration includes over 300 activities in five “learning neighborhoods” that encourage attendees to tap into our fearless world of discovery and new ideas.

Join us for interactive demonstrations, performances and workshops showcasing science and tech, the arts, sports, agriculture and more!

Whether you’re a current student or prospective student, faculty or staff member, graduate, fan, or member of the surrounding community, Maryland Day has something for everyone.

Decoding Documents

  • 10am-4pm
  • Hornbake Plaza
  • Visitors will try their hand at paleography (the art of reading handwriting) using cursive practice sheets (kids) and a large document puzzle (all ages).  Help decipher letters and words and piece together a mystery text.

Mini Photo Archive

  • 10am-4pm
  • Hornbake Plaza
  • Join the College of Information’s Center for Archival Futures for mini photo preservation. Visitors will get to take home a mini photo in their own document case.

DIG into Digital Access

  • 10am-1pm
  • Hornbake Portico
  • At DIG into Digital Access everyone will have a chance to have some fun!  Take a digital equity quiz, take a speed test to test your upload and download speeds, or for kids and kids-at-heart, make your first computer (on paper).  Swag and a few prizes will sweeten the pot.

INFO Challenge Duck Analysis

  • 10am-4pm
  • Hornbake Plaza
  • Select a duck from the College of Information’s duck pond. Win a prize by guessing which duck number visitors will draw most frequently.

Little Free Library

  • 10am-4pm
  • Hornbake Plaza
  • Join faculty, staff and students of the College of Information  to spin the wheel to win prizes. All participants have a chance to win a book to take home from our “Little Free Library.”

Coding Games

  • 1pm-4pm
  • Hornbake Portico
  • Will the mouse get the cheese? Can you program a mini robot? Come test your basic coding skills with the College of Information.
