This presentation marks the launch of the “Filipino American Lives in the DMV” website, which includes a virtual exhibit and a set of lesson plans on Filipino American history for junior high students.  This site was created by students in two MLIS courses: “User Instruction” and “Arrangement, Description, and Access for Archives,” both taught by Dr. Eric Hung.  The project is a collaboration with the University of Maryland’s Special Collections and University Archives—especially curator Dr. Joni Floyd, Filipino American community leaders Rita M. Cacas and Dr. Erwin Tiongson, and the over one dozen people we interviewed for the project.  Filipino American soprano Leslie Damaso will join us virtually to sing the kundiman “Kung Hindi Man,” the song that was performed at a 1943 Filipino Women’s Club of Washington DC Supper and Dance attended by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
In honor of Rita M. Cacas and her decades-long effort to preserve Filipino American history.
