BIO

Ping Wang is an associate professor and director of the Master of Information Management program at the College of Information, University of Maryland, College Park. He has been serving as an associate editor at MIS Quarterly since 2022 and research associate with the Information Systems Research Program at UCLA Anderson School since 2019, where he earned his PhD. In his research, Ping draws on institutional theory and discourse analysis to understand the popularity of information and digital technologies. In recent years he has taken an ecological perspective to study digital innovations – how and why organizations, industries, communities, and ecosystems innovate with digital technologies, such as quantum computing, AI, blockchain, and big data, in settings like enterprise IT, tourism, open innovation, cybersecurity, e-government, and sustainable development. His current teaching portfolio includes courses on fundamentals of technology innovation, information project and service management, information environments, and strategic information management. He received the INFO College’s Instructional Innovation Award in 2025, MIS Quarterly’s Outstanding Associate Editor Award in 2023, Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Information Systems in 2016, and Best Published Paper Award from the Organizational Communication and Information Systems Division of the Academy of Management in 2010.
