BIO

Kate Izsak is Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives in the College of Information at the University of Maryland. She works at the intersection of technology, teaching, and social good, designing learning experiences that help students critically engage with emerging technologies and their ethical implications.

She is the founder of the Campus Computing Community (C3), a cross-campus initiative supporting students in computing through peer tutoring and enrichment opportunities. She also co-founded the INFO Commons, a flexible hub for experimentation with IoT, gaming, AR/VR, prototyping, and design, as well as the DC-Metro Break Through Tech Program, which expands gender equity in technology through curriculum innovation, career pathways, and community building.

Kate has also played a leading role in developing new UMD degree programs in areas such as information design, human-centered AI, social data science, gaming and media analytics, and community resilience.
