As a part of her crowdsourcing project to reimagine libraries, University of Maryland College of Information Studies (UMD iSchool) professor Mega Subramaniam published her second School Library Journal (SLJ) article, coauthored with Linda Braun, titled, “Retire Those Legacy Approaches. It’s Time to Be Bold and Innovative. | Reimagining Libraries.”

Subramaniam and Braun are working to develop a framework for maintaining youth library services during the COVID-19 crisis. They held co-design sessions via Zoom to learn about how libraries across the country are adapting during this time.

They share that, “Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel said, ‘Never let a serious crisis go to waste.’ For libraries, this means taking this opportunity to be bold and innovative, to leave the tried and true behind, and to swiftly change administration and policies to ensure that all youth have the services they need. This may require making difficult and radical, yet still sound, decisions. That’s what our kids and families deserve.”
